ABOUT.
Kyrre Kvam is a Norwegian-born, Vienna-based composer working across film, television, theatre and music. He is the winner of the Österreichisches Musiktheaterpreis for his score to LuziWuzi (Rabenhof Theater Wien, with Tom Neuwirth/Conchita Wurst), and was nominated for the Österreichischer Filmpreis.
His first original musical, Ronja Räubertochter — based on Astrid Lindgren's beloved novel — premieres at the Volksoper Wien in September 2026, composed for full orchestra.
His cinema credits include Der Boden unter den Füßen (main competition, Berlinale, dir. Marie Kreutzer), Der Pfau (dir. Lutz Heineking Jr.), Altweibersommer (dir. Pia Hierzegger), Noch lange keine Lippizaner (dir. Olga Kosanovic), and Wie ich lernte bei mir selbst Kind zu sein (dir. Rupert Henning).
In television, his scores span more than a decade of Austrian and German production. Credits include Kafka (ORF/ARD, dir. David Schalko & Daniel Kehlmann), Braunschlag 1986 (ORF), Warum ich (ORF/ARD), Altes Geld (ORF), Club der Dinosaurier (ZDF/CBS, dir. Lutz Heineking Jr.), Keine besonderen Vorkommnisse (dir. Lutz Heineking Jr.), Höhenstrasse(ORF), and Schutzengel (Landkrimi, dir. Götz Spielmann). His long collaboration with David Schalko began with Braunschlag in 2012.
In theatre, Kvam has composed for the Burgtheater Wien, Berliner Ensemble, Residenztheater München, Theater in der Josefstadt, Volkstheater Wien, and Schauspiel Köln, among others. He has worked repeatedly with directors Nikolaus Habjan, Janusz Kica, Stephanie Mohr, Christina Tscharyiski, Michael Gampe, and Ruth Brauer-Kvam.
He has also released several albums as a singer-songwriter.
He trained as an actor and singer at Mountview Theatre School in London. His background as a performer continues to inform his compositional approach — music that serves the story without announcing itself.
