More than a decade ago, the town of Braunschlag was the talk of the town. A purported apparition of the Virgin Mary drew thousands of tourists to the northern Waldviertel region—until a nuclear accident rendered the area inaccessible. All the residents of Braunschlag fled. All of them? No. Mayor Gerri Tschach (Robert Palfrader) and disco owner Richard Pfeisinger (Nicholas Ofczarek) defied the exodus. Now the air is clear again—though the town has somehow lost its spark. Then Tschach comes up with an idea worthy of his market town: he abruptly issues a decree declaring that, from this moment on, the year 1986 reigns in Braunschlag. Nostalgia meets digital detox—Braunschlag is back. And the former residents are returning, too.

Naturally, such success does not go unnoticed. Young investor B.B. (Arthur Vischer) is already lying in wait, and the political establishment is keen to leave its mark as well. The fact that many social norms in 1986 differed from those of today stirs up the electorate. And then, suddenly, the mysterious Ronda (Gabriela Garcia Vargas) appears on the dance floor of the Disco Lametta.
