North Frisia today: After the death of his father-in-law, Hauke ​​Haien (Max Hubacher) takes on two important roles in coastal protection. He becomes dike warden and director of coastal protection. Technically, Hauke ​​is the best man for the job; he's a visionary who lives and thinks in harmony with nature. It's just that people aren't his thing. A loner, Hauke ​​barely knows how to inspire an audience or win over supporters. His warnings about the effects of climate change are dismissed as hysteria in the village, even though the coastal inhabitants know that a drastic course correction in climate policy is inevitable. But if his own existence is relevant, then the best is the best. Fortunately for Hauke, he has support in his wife, Elke (Olga von Luckwald). Success and cleverness are theirs, and Hauke's ideas are heard, even finding a positive response in politics. But Hauke ​​doesn't enjoy his success for long, because when it becomes known that his plans are far more radical than previously communicated, he is met with incomprehension and anger. Resistance and pressure, as is now seen, are taking their toll on him. The catastrophe is approaching — and can no longer be averted.
