A flood leads to the discovery of three infants' bodies in the cellar of the long-uninhabited Trummler family farm. The family members, however, have been either dead or missing for a considerable time. The villagers have never quite forgotten the tragedies surrounding the family, and old wounds are reopened when Marion Reiter from the St. Pölten homicide squad takes on the investigation. She is assisted by the inexperienced but tenacious local police officer, Ulli Herzog.
